How to make a Piñata Cake
What you’ll need:
Cake Base:
2 White Candy Melt Bags
Decor:
1 Blue Candy Melt Bag
1 Red Candy Melt Bag
1 Yellow Candy Melt Bag
Birthday Candle
Other:
Silicone Spatula
Candies and small toys for filling
Patience
Start by
Setting your melting pot to the second setting and adding half of one candy melts bag, once the melts are fully melted stir in the remaining melts using the silicone spatula.
YES, use a silicone spatula.
& the bag does say that you can use the microwave to melt them, but I didn’t try that out. Let me know if that’s easier!
Take the candy melts out of the pot, stir until they are fully melted and all lumps are gone.
Begin to coat the silicone cake mold with the melts.
I usually start with the sides and go all around the mold before pouring the rest of the melt into the base of the mold.
TIP:
take your spatula and clean up the rim of your cake mold before it solidifies. This will help to keep it from breaking when taking it out of the mold later on.
Set a timer for 2 hrs.
Check to see if it’s solid and begin to work on the second layer by repeating the process (steps 1-3)
Allow it to completely solidify. This is where the patience comes in! :) The first time I made this I left it out overnight, and had no problem taking it out of the mold the next morning. That wasn’t the case when I attempted to to take it out after only waiting a couple of hours. (It literally started to break apart as I took it out) :(
This is the tricky part
being incredibly careful, begin to separate the cake base from the mold. Flip the cake upside down to have gravity help as you take it out. Take your time, I learned the hard way. :) OH! and just incase you do break it, remember that you can just melt the white candy melt and try again!
Once
you have the cake out, place your candies and small toys inside
Melt a few extra white candy melts and slowly spread onto the rim of the cake to help it stay on the cake stand.
Now you get to decorate!
Fully melt the red candy melts and let it sit for 2-3 minutes or until it is cool and at a thicker consistency.
Pour it into the bottle with a steel piping tip.
Slowly drip the red melt from the edge of the cake, leaving room for the blue and yellow in between. (about 3 inches of red)
Repeat steps 1-3 for the blue and yellow melts.
Cut the base of the birthday candle off and use the melt to place the candle on top.
& voilà!
you have your very own piñata cake to smash! I’d love to see your creation so tag me or comment below with photos of your cake. Make sure you pin this for later and
HAVE
A
BLESSED
DAY.
